Our lives have been transformed overnight by COVID-19. The effects of the sudden change are still playing out in unfavorable ways; yet, for some it has been a blessing is a strange sort of way. The sudden halt to the world we knew forced us to stop and reacquaint ourselves with the most precious things in our lives and for others it has illuminated the void that exists creating a sense of loss and depression.
Fear of what is known and even greater fear of the unknown can be paralyzing if we don’t take a moment to breathe and remember where our comfort comes from. In Psalm 55:22, the Lord tells us to cast our burden on him, which means to release our burdens, and He will sustain us and uphold us! He will never allow the righteous to slip and fall.
I struggle, as no doubt many of you do, with the uncertainty of the future, the fatigue of being isolated, the tug of depression when not able to gather with those we love and the struggles of facing the fear of every day’s “what it”. I find comfort and peace by taking a few moments every day to reflect on those things which try to hold me back and then with intention cast all of them on Him who is able to keep me from falling. I pray for my fellow nurses facing their own struggles that peace and comfort will be with you as we go through these times. I also keep a journal of blessings every day to remind me of all the good things this life still does offer.
